We wanted to give Michelle a taste of the adventure she has to look forward to later this week, so spent last Saturday afternoon at the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Preserve.  It was a beautiful day, don’t you think so?

In addition to the hundreds of birds and hatching crickets, we even saw an alligator sunning itself near a turtle.

They may be flat, but the Everglades are still beautiful.

I wanted to get some pictures of them hiking, because I won’t be along for the next one.  (Someone needs to do the dropping off and picking up so they don’t have to retrace their steps, and 27 miles worth would be a lot of steps to retrace!)  I can assure you, though, that the terrain will be pretty much the same – along a series of canal dikes leading from the Seminole Indian Reservation to Lake Okeechobee.

And now that the hiking boots are warmed up and ready to go, it’s time to pack everything else.  Segment 4 of the Florida Trail, here we come!
